Elakkat Gireesh, MD, joined the Florida Epilepsy Center from the University of Florida, where he was an assistant professor in the neurology department’s epilepsy division. Prior to that time, he completed dual fellowships in neurophysiology and epilepsy at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, where he earned multiple awards for clinical and academic excellence. Dr. Gireesh undertook his residency training at New York University and Johns Hopkins, and he was a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He also holds a post-graduate degree in medical science and technology from the Indian Institute of Technology. He earned his medical degree as part of an intensive, seven-year medicine and surgery program at Calicut Medical College in India.

With broad experience in intracranial EEG monitoring, Neuropace responsive neurostimulation and the use of ketogenic diets for controlling epilepsy, Dr. Gireesh is an integral part of the medical team at Florida Epilepsy Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry and a member of the American Academy of Neurology and American Epilepsy Society.
